UBCO Centre for Human Rights, Diversity & Identity
Research at CHRDI
The Centre provides an inter-disciplinary environment for a range of scholars from UBC and beyond to engage in research related to social justice and diversity studies. The Centre supports research focused on a range of themes, including:
- Cultural Politics and Place;
- Globalization and Cultural, Economic and Social Restructuring;
- Health and Social Policy Programmes and Services;
- Marginalisation and Social Exclusion;
- The Politics of Space, Place and Identity;
- Recovery and Repatriation of Indigenous Cultures;
- Indigenous Health, Education and Social Justice Issues;
- The Politics and Processes of Colonization, Decolonisation and Neo-Colonialism;
- Globalization and Shifting Economic Geographies of Spaces and Places; and,
- Globalization and Inclusion and Exclusion in the Labour Force.
The Centre provides its members with a purpose-built research facility — part of the Allied Social Research Centre — which comprises a research lab and conference/interview space. The research lab is equipped with the latest in high-power computers, a broad range of qualitative and quantitative research software, digital audio and video recording devices, transcription equipment and other research tools.
The Allied Social Research Centre is funded by UBC Okanagan and grants from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council. Centre Research Fellows have applications for funding submitted to various funding agencies.
